EPISODE 1
A DAY OLD WITH A PERFECT SET OF TEETH
Once opon a time, there was a man in my village, called Atata. his wife is one of the most beatiful women in the village, she was called Elo, meaning brightness. whenever Elo went to the river to fetch water or to the market to buy and sell, alot of men always approach her, admiring her beaty.
alata was therefor proud to be the fortunate husband of such a beautiful woman
But, why atatawas happyand proud. some women in the village were jelouse of elo's good looks. in their hearts they did not wish her well although outwardly they appeared very chearful and friendly to her.
atata and elo were fond of each other
the men in the village made fun of atatafor being to close to his wife, some even called him ''WOMAN WRAPPER'' by this they meant that atata was a weak man, a stay at home type of man, who would prefer his wife's compan to drinking with his fellow men outside
atata, however, was not worried by such remarks. the first year of their marriage passed away happily . but by the middle of the second year the happiness was gone. somthing very important was missing in their marriage: children! elo had never been pregnant since her marriage. that was something intolerable in the village. a woman who could not become pregnant and bear children was morel or less useless. those women who had been jealous of elo's beauty were now happy about the misfortune. they refered to her as a cook with beautiful feathers that can never lay an egg!
the second year passed away and elo was still not pregnant. atata was no longer happy and proud. he was sad and disappointed, elo was even more miserable than atata, she wept most nights
then one evening. Uzi atata's friend asked why atata had not gone to consult a native doctor about this problem
''Yes, a native doctor is the answer''
declared Uzi. ''there is nothing native doctors can not do. they talk to with the gods and they know all the secrets of life'' he added
Atata himself was surprised that he had not thought of seeing a native doctor before. he was very happy about the suggestion
The following evening atata and his wife knocked at the door of the village native doctor, called Ikolo. as atata was about to open his mouth to mention his problem, ikolo at once hushed him down
''don't open your mouth at all my son. I know why you and your wife are here '' , he said.
Then he brought out an old mirrow, rubbed his eyes with chalk peered in the glassin hand. and made some incatations
ikolo chanted away, speaking with invisible spirits in a strange language much to the surprise of atata and his wife
He peared again into the mirrow in his hand and nodded his head. '' oh, my daughter, my lovely daughter'' he said addressing Elo,
''because of your natural beautiy your enemies are so many. they have closed up your womb so that you may not beared a child
Elo at once began to weep
''Don't weep my daughter'' he entreateted '' you are in the right place, your problems will be solved. i am ikolo, the son of the thunder. i kill my enemies with one blow from the sky. no problem ever gets to me that cannot be resolved. now, see! what am seeing! how i wish you had seven eyes like me to see what am seeing! well for your information, am seeing a bouncing baby boy . yes, before this year rolls away you will be pregnant, and give birth to a bouncing baby boy'' he predicted.
'' but be ready to do all that i tell you?''
''anything. just say it'' replied Atata eagerly
''well, nothing much, really. just a white hen which i will use \to prepare some medicjn for her to drink and a black he-goat which i will use for a private sacrificies for her. moreover from now on, the two of you should abstain from eating cassava, be it in form of foofoo or gari or tapioca or starch'', he Declared. atata wondered in his mind how on earth the eating of cassava could prevent a woman from getting pregnat. but he daed not question the wisdom of ikolo, the powerful son of thunder! everything was carried out in accordance with ikolo, instructions. atata bought the two goats easily. What he did not find so easy was the order to abstain from eating cassava which was the stable in the village. however, no sacrifice was too great, particularly, since the great ikolo had promised them a bouncing baby boy! so elo drank, liquid medicine every morning and evening with great enthusiasm
